Importance of communication

I had started my career as a lecturer from Allahabad. I still have remembrance of my first lecture. It was of Engineering Drawing. I started the lecture by asking a question. I asked, "what is the biggest problem of the world". It was a strange question as far as Engineering Drawing class was concerned, seems to be irrelevant. But, answers were started coming from the students. Some of them said that pollution is the biggest problem etc. After getting the answers and compiling them I said that according to me all these problems can be treated as a big problem but the reason behind them is the biggest challenge or problem in itself and that is the communication gap. Communication gap is the cause of all. If you see pollution as a problem, it is difficult to understand that one of the causes of it can be a communication gap. But it is one of the cause as the authorities at some level not communicating to a good level. The result is in the lower awareness level of the people. It is because of lack of communication. For example in an industry the reason for strikes is mainly an inbuilt communication gap, it can be between management and employees or employees and employees or management and the outside world.
I actually raised this topic to make students understood the importance of communication, relevant to engineering drawing as engineering drawing is the language of engineers and an engineer communicates with the help of drawing. So, to make them understood the importance of communication was necessary. It is a fact that many of the problems can be solved by proper communication.
In Mahabharata, Krishna knew it very well and that is why he tried to communicate that if Kaurvas could give only five villages the war could be dissolved. He tried everything to cease the fire. The war took place at last but the efforts for peace gave the message to the right or good people from the enemy side that the opposition doesn't want the war. That changes thinking of opposition, first of all, gives a right message and secondly increases the chances of winning. Ram also sent the message of peace and that was why gained sympathy and attracted some people from opposition towards him. Vibhishana was an example.
Today the problem like Kashmir or the problem of naxals is worsened because the communication with them is probably not going on. Both are necessary, communication and strict actions. And strict actions should not hinder communication. Communication is more important and listening is a necessary part of communication.
The thoughts above are purely mine. Many of you may disagree.
Posting the above as my tribute to the soldiers.
